NCTC Softball Coach, Van Hedrick Reaches 1,000 Career Wins

Coach Van Hedrick and the NCTC softball team won against Cisco on April 17th, 2024. This win has secured Coach Hedrick his 1,000th career win.

Van Hedrick has been the only head softball coach in the 25-year history of the North Central Texas College program. After serving as the assistant baseball coach at NCTC for several years, he started the softball program from scratch in 1999.

Since the inception of the program, Coach Hedrick has made sure his team is actively involved in the community. Whether it be volunteering with a community playground build, reading to kindergarten students at local schools, working at a hot-air balloon festival to benefit a local hospital, or cleaning up a church playground, the Lady Lions softball team is always looking for ways to help out the community. Congratulation Coach Hedrick!

Cooke County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan Update

In coordination with Cooke County, the Cities of: Callisburg, Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster, Valley View, Towns of: Oak Ridge, Roadrunner, Independent School Districts (ISDs) of: Callisburg, Era, Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster, Sivell’s Bend, Valley View, Walnut Bend, and North Central Texas College, are updating the Cooke County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The North Central Texas College Foundation held its annual Starlite Gala Saturday, April 6th, 2024, honoring individuals and organizations that have given of their time and resources to further NCTC and their local communities. With this year being NCTC’s 100th Anniversary, the event honored donors, students, and community members who have been pivotal in the college’s success.

100 Hours of Community Service

Celebrating 100 Years by Serving Our Community for 100 Hours

On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, NCTC held a ‘Day of Service’ in which all staff were welcome to participate by spending the day volunteering locally. With the goal to reach a total of 100 combined community service hours in honor of NCTC’s 100-year anniversary in mind, 70 staff members total volunteered in Denton County, Cooke County, Graham, and Bowie.

NCTC Shining Bright for 100 Years

North Central Texas College is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and to celebrate, the Gainesville Campus is lit up in the college's colors, Blue and White. Founded in 1924 by Randolph Lee Clark, NCTC is the oldest, continuously operating two-year college in Texas. NCTC began as Gainesville Junior College, an extension of the local public school system, in 3 rooms of the Newsome Dougherty Memorial High School building in Gainesville.

NCTC celebrates graduates

North Central Texas College hosted two commencement ceremonies on December 15th at the Gainesville campus to honor the Fall 2023 graduates. More than 400 students applied for graduation at NCTC this fall and 256 participated in the graduation ceremonies.

TRIO Talent Search Field Trips

Over the weekend TRIO Talent Search took some field trips! High schoolers explored the Latino Cultural Center; students saw the works of prominent Latino artist, learned about prominent Latino figures in DFW, and reflected on their own heritage. Middle schoolers visited Group Dynamix where they collaborated in team building activities and personal development.
