NCTC Launches Explore to Employ Program Connecting Students to Local Careers

North Central Texas College (NCTC) is launching a new program to help students explore careers right here in Cooke County.

Explore to Employ (E2E) is a short-term program for current high school juniors who will be seniors during the 2026–2027 school year. The program gives students the chance to visit local businesses, see what different jobs look like, and gain a better understanding before making decisions about their plans after high school.

Students will begin with one week at NCTC focused on career readiness. They will then spend two weeks at a local business, observing daily work and learning about different roles and career paths.

“Students are often asked to make big decisions about their future without ever seeing what those careers actually look like,” said Barbara Stanley, Director of Red River Promise. “This program gives them the opportunity to explore their options in a real and meaningful way before taking their next steps.”

“The Explore to Employ program creates a meaningful opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience, build professional connections, and better understand their future career options,” said Dr. DesMontes Stewart, Superintendent of Gainesville ISD. “This type of exposure is critical in preparing students for success beyond high school while also strengthening our local workforce.”

Local employers, including Select Water Solutions and other industry partners, have already committed to participating in the program’s first year.

“Programs like Explore to Employ give us the chance to meet students early on, show them what our work is all about, and play a part in developing the workforce we all rely on,” said Jan Harrison, DOT Compliance Manager with Select Water Solutions. “It’s a great opportunity for companies like ours to invest in the next generation while also spotting potential future team members.”

NCTC is currently seeking additional businesses and organizations interested in participating. Employers can host a small number of students and provide supervised, real-world observation experiences. The program is designed to be flexible and fit within normal business operations.

The first year of the program will begin with students from Gainesville ISD, with plans to expand to additional Cooke County schools in the future.
