North Central Texas College (NCTC) is inviting students and community members to share their creativity, showcase their talents, and let their voices be heard through the annual NCTC Creativity Awards. Submissions are now open for this year’s competition, celebrating original work in writing and visual art.

The NCTC Creativity Awards give creatives a chance to have their work recognized and featured in Sonder, NCTC’s annual literary and art publication. The competition also comes full circle with a celebration honoring the creativity, talent, and accomplishments of those who participate.

Whether you love putting words on a page, telling stories, creating art, or simply have something you want to share with the world, there’s a place for your work. Submissions are welcome in the following categories:

• Poetry
• Short fiction
• Creative nonfiction
• Visual art

The world needs your voice now more than ever. The work you create matters, and NCTC is proud to be part of your creative journey.

Ready to share your work? Contact Jacob Arnold at jarnold@nctc.edu or visit www.nctc.edu/lions/student-life/creativity-awards/ for submission guidelines, additional information, and details on how to enter.

Meet This Year's Featured Artist and Guest Judge: Dan Black

This year’s Creativity Awards also shine a spotlight on artist Dan Black, whose creative journey began in 2007 when he started spray painting murals. Since then, Dan has continued to teach himself new techniques and explore different forms of art. He has now painted more than 100 murals for commercial, private, and municipal clients.

Today, Dan’s artistic pursuits extend beyond mural painting to include acrylic and oil painting, layered panel installation, and figure sculpture.

For Dan, one of the most rewarding parts of art is the joy of discovery that comes through learning and creating. He is also fascinated by art’s mysterious potential to connect people.

We hope Dan’s creative journey inspires you to share a little of your own.
