NCTC Board Approves Closure of Flower Mound Campus

The North Central Texas College (NCTC) Board of Regents has approved the discontinuation and closure of the college’s Flower Mound Campus, with campus operations scheduled to cease no later than August 31, 2027, at the conclusion of the Summer 2027 academic term.

This decision follows a review of enrollment trends, academic demand, operating costs, and the long-term sustainability of the Flower Mound Campus. The decision is part of the college’s broader effort to ensure that its resources are aligned with student demand and that NCTC remains financially responsible while continuing to provide high-quality educational opportunities throughout its service area.

“We recognize that closing a campus is a significant decision, and we understand that it affects students, employees and the Flower Mound community,” said Dr. Brent Wallace, Chancellor of North Central Texas College. “Our responsibility is to make decisions that protect the long-term strength of the College while ensuring that our students continue to have access to the courses, programs and support they need to complete their educational goals.”

Student transition is a priority set by the board. NCTC will begin developing a comprehensive transition and closure plan immediately. A primary component of that plan will be ensuring that students currently attending the Flower Mound Campus have reasonable opportunities to complete their programs and coursework.

NCTC will continue to serve students throughout Denton County. Students will have opportunities to continue their education at one of NCTC’s other three Denton County locations, through virtual instruction or through online classes. The college will work with students to identify the best option for continuing their education and reaching their academic goals.

“The most important consideration throughout this process will be our students,” Wallace said. “We will work carefully with students to minimize disruption to their academic progress and provide clear information about their options for completing their education at NCTC.”

The college will continue normal academic operations at the Flower Mound Campus through the transition period, with final campus operations ending no later than August 31, 2027.

As part of the board’s action, NCTC administration has been directed to develop plans addressing the future of the Flower Mound facilities, equipment, furnishings and other college assets. The college will evaluate appropriate options, including reassignment, lease, sale or other disposition of assets, consistent with applicable law and board policy.

The administration has also been directed to align staffing and organizational resources with the discontinuation of campus operations. A review of positions associated with the Flower Mound Campus will be conducted, including opportunities for appropriate reassignment to continuing college operations when available and appropriate. Where positions are no longer necessary, the college will implement workforce changes consistent with applicable law, policy and employment requirements.

The board has further directed the administration to take reasonable steps to reduce ongoing expenses associated with the campus and ensure that the college's organizational structure reflects the discontinuation of operations.

NCTC Chancellor, Dr. Brent Wallace, will provide the Board of Regents with periodic updates throughout the transition process. Those updates will address student transition, personnel, facilities, financial impacts and other matters requiring Board consideration.

“North Central Texas College has an obligation to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us by our students, taxpayers and communities,” said Karla Metzler, Chair of the NCTC Board of Regents. “This decision was not made lightly. The board believes it is necessary to responsibly align the college’s resources with current and future enrollment and educational needs while continuing to serve students across our district.”

The college will communicate additional information to students and employees as the transition plan is developed and implementation begins.
