A consequence of this increase in business use of technology and the shift toward knowledge in American industry is that all workers need a certain level of computer and technical skills. As businesses hire and train college graduates with technical skills, universities must determine the appropriateness of their curricula from a technical perspective.

Schools of business have determined that students, whether they’re IT majors or not, need proficiency in computer and information technology. Demand for college graduates with basic computer and IT skills has become the norm, raising the need for curriculum to match industry needs. It’s recommended that students planning to complete a University degree should take at least one basic computer programming course.

NCTC has several academic Computer Science courses that will transfer to most if not all universities. Most Universities will take up to 27 hours of transfer courses for a Computer Science major. Mechanical, Electrical and Bio Engineering curricula will accept COSC 1436 as the basic programming requirement.
