This highly specialized career field is in high-demand and in great need of skilled Electrical Technicians to handle the never-ending workload of the industry. Electrical Technicians possess a basic knowledge of electron theory, series, parallel and combination circuits, and will learn the fundamentals of electrical work through our program. Located on our Gainesville campus, the Electrical Technician program at NCTC will train students in motor controls, wiring techniques, and National Electrical Code. Our professors are trained industry professionals who are well-respected and qualified in the electrical field, and offer a deep understanding of the work at hand. 

NCTC’s Electrical Technician program gives you the skills necessary to begin a career as an apprentice electrician immediately following graduation. The skills acquired in our program will broaden the job opportunities for you as an electrician or in other industrial applications. The Electrical Technician Program at NCTC is an Approved Electrician Apprenticeship Program with the Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR), and is why our program is so highly rated throughout the state of Texas.

Degrees

This career field is ideal for those interested in making a solid living without the need for a 4-year university degree. In just two years, you may earn a Level 1 Certificate, which prepares you for a position as an apprentice electrician. With a combination of online, hybrid and in-person courses on our Gainesville campus, you will learn all about control systems and their application in an industrial environment. This is the first step to a journeyman and a master electrician license. The Electrical Technician Workforce Certificate also constitutes the second semester of the Industrial Mechatronics Certificate and AAS degree.

From the Fundamentals of Electricity, to Motors and Transformers, to Electrical Safety Protocols, and beyond, you will garner the knowledge needed to rise to the top of your career field and ultimately mentor those around you to become better performing Electricians.

Level 1 Certificate

This certificate can be completed with a combination of online, hybrid, and in-person classes. The program is designed to be completed in one semester. Upon completion of the Level 1 Workforce Certificate, you will be able to:

  • Apply basic electrical theory in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of motors and generators and their application in an industrial environment.

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of control systems and their application in an industrial environment.

  • Fundamental understanding of the National Electrical Code and its purpose in the industry.

Capstone Requirement: Students completing the certificate must pass a comprehensive program exam and lab with a score of 70% or higher. The exam and lab will be embedded in ELPT 2319 curriculum.
