RN to BSN Transition Overview

The ADN program at NCTC partners with major universities to offer students the opportunity for a smoother transition from ADN to BSN through the Consortium for the Advancement of Baccalaureate Nursing Education in Texas (CABNET) agreement. The BSN Pathway curriculum has been standardized. Students that graduate with an ADN from NCTC, pass the NCLEX-RN, and complete all BSN pre-requisite courses will be able to complete the BSN program with 30 hours of online courses at one of our partner universities

Texas supports the Institute of Medicine (IOM) goal established in 2011 to increase the number of RNs holding a bachelor's degree in nursing to 80% by the year 2020.

Graduates enrolled in a BSN program after obtaining RN licensure have an advantage when searching for jobs.

University Partnerships

NCTC has partnerships with the following universities for RN to BSN Blended or Transition programs. Theses programs offer an easy transition from NCTC’s ADN program to a BSN.

Midwestern State University
RN to BSN Transition Program

NCTC has partnered with Midwestern State University to allow guaranteed acceptance to students who complete NCTC’s ADN program requirements, and RN certification, into the MSU RN to BSN Transition Program.

Texas Tech University
RN to BSN Transition Program

NCTC’s partnership with Texas Tech University allows students to transition from RN to BSN after the successful completion of NCTC’s ADN program requirements and RN certification.

Texas Woman’s University
RN to BSN Blended or Transition Programs

NCTC has partnered with Texas Woman’s University to graduate students with an Associate Degree and Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree through the Blended Program. Students will be accepted into the Associate Degree Nursing Program and, if eligible, into the TWU BS in Nursing Blended program simultaneously. Eligibility for the TWU Blended Program is based on GPA, TEAS score, and completion of TWU Nursing prerequisites. The student will take NCTC RN classes at the same time as TWU BS in Nursing courses. Students should contact both their academic advisors and the ADN Program Chair for additional details.

TWU also offers an RN to BSN Transition program that allows for a clear path to achieve your BSN after completing all requirements of NCTC’s ADN Program and RN certification.

  • CHEM 1406 Intro to Chemistry or CHEM 1411 General Chemistry

  • BIOL 1322 Basic Nutrition

  • ENGL 1302 Composition II

  • EDUC 1300 Learning Frameworks

  • PSYC 2301 Intro to General Psychology

  • HIST 1301 US History to 1865

  • HIST 1302 US History from 1865

  • SPCH 1311 or 1315 or 1321 Speech

  • GOVT 2305 Federal Government

  • GOVT 2306 Texas Government

  • A two-hour elective

  • An additional Language, Philosophy, Culture or Creative Arts course

*BSN requires one course from Language, Philosophy or Culture and one course from Creative Arts.
