Surgical Technology Program

The surgical technologist program at North Central Texas College readies students to become Certified Surgical Technologist with a national certification from NBSTSA from a CAAHEP accredited program. You will be trained extensively in aseptic technique, creating and maintaining a sterile field for surgeries, preparation of the OR, technical and extensive knowledge of surgeries and instrumentation, proper counting techniques for surgery, how to assist during procedures, preparation of sterile dressings and safe, appropriate care for surgical patients. Courses are taught in the classroom, lab, and clinical sites throughout our service area. Upon graduation, you'll be ready to work as part of a team with doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare workers.

Admissions Steps

Applications are opened from January 1st, 2026 to June 15, 2026 for Fall 2026 class start.

Please note: Beginning in January 2025, no entrance exams (including the HESI exam) will be required for this program.

  • How to Apply

  • Once all admission requirements are met, you will be notified by the Admissions Office of your acceptance to NCTC. You may meet with your success coach/advisor and begin registering for the pre-requisite and general academic courses if needed. See the Surgical Tech degree plan.

  • Information sessions are held in two ways. The recorded session can be registered for and watched at any time. The live sessions are held once a semester and are at a specific time.

    ATTEND A LIVE SESSION

  • After you have attended an information session, you will receive an email with more information about the Surgical Technology program application process. Log in to MyNCTC and complete the ONLINE application below. Paper applications are not accepted. Complete as much as possible of the application initially. Your application will remain open until all items are attached (pre-requisite grades or immunization/titer proof) is attached. You can continue to return and add things until the application deadline.

     

    ONLINE APPLICATION

  • Acceptance into the program is based on a point system. Students scoring the highest total admission points will be admitted to the AAS Surgical Technology program. Applicants will be ranked according to the priority points total. The program accepts a maximum of 24 students. Remaining candidates will be listed as alternates. If any admitted candidates are unable to begin the program for that particular semester, the next highest scoring alternate will be admitted. Any applicant (including alternates who did not get in) wishing to reapply the following semester must go through the admission procedure again.

    After Acceptance, before orientation:

    Attendance of an in person orientation will be required before the program begins in August.

    The following will have to be completed by the in person orientation in August.

    • proof of American Heart Association Provider Basic Life Support CPR completion

    • criminal background check

    • health physical form

    • proof of health insurance

    An updated flu shot and a drug test will be needed before clinical rotation begins.
