Equestrian Teams

NCTC hosts three equestrian teams who compete against other two and four-year colleges throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana; IHSA Western Show Team, Stock Horse Team, and Horse Judging Team.

IHSA Western Show Team

This team is a Western Stock Seat Team that competes against other colleges in levels from beginner up to open riders. Show experience is not necessary to be part of the team, and students do not have to have a horse to compete either.

NCTC is now the Regional Presidency college for Zone 7 Region 2. NCTC will be hosting IHSA shows at the college.

Requirements

  • Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hrs per semester

  • Must make the required number of practices a week (3)

  • Must maintain satisfactory grades in classes to travel

Stock Horse Team

If you like to to stop, spin and chase cows then come be a part of the Stock Horse Team. Team members compete in SHTX, NRCHA, APHA and ASHA competitions in four main classes:

  • working cowhorse

  • reining

  • trail

  • ranch pleasure

Horse Judging Team

The Horse Judging Team competes in judging contests throughout the fall semester and is an opportunity to take an in-depth look at judging horses in all areas of the industry. Contests include the American Quarter Horse Congress, AQHA World Show, and the National Reining Horse Association contest. We host collegiate spring contest and a major open youth horse judging competition every spring.
