Applying from outside the United States
Initial Application
Apply to NCTC online through Apply Texas. Please read and answer all questions as thoroughly as possible to help us in processing your application. Please reach out to international@nctc.edu if you have questions about the application.
- Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the start date of your first semester.
- Needed for any dependents as well
- A general evaluation of foreign transcripts is required from a credential evaluation company that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services(NACES). For a list of approved agencies, please visit www.naces.org.
- All courses must be completed before requesting an evaluation. Requesting an evaluation with in-progress courses will not show academic equivalency and will not count towards this requirement.
- We recommend The Evaluation Company for discounted pricing, and quicker turnaround for NCTC applicants.
- A graduation date must be listed on the transcripts if courses are still in progress. If courses are completed, a diploma may also be required to process the evaluation.
- International students must show evidence that they have $28,283 USD available per academic year (9 months).
- Evidence of an additional $5,000 USD is needed per dependent.
- What to submit:
- Original financial statements must be dated within 6 months of the start date of your first semester, or,
- An original letter from the bank on official bank letterhead dated within 6 months of the start date of your first semester.
- All students must submit a Statement of Financial Support form which details the funding available to them for their education. Statements must be signed and dated after the date of their bank statements.
- If funds are not coming from your bank account, the owner of the bank account must fill out and sign Section 5.
- International Students must agree to the rules and regulations outlined in the F-1 Guidelines Agreement and sign at the bottom of the page.
- Remember to ROAR:
- Remain in good academic standing.
- Obtain approval for work.
- Always keep documents and payment accounts up to date.
- Reach out and report changes!
- International students are required to submit proof that they are proficient in English either through a test or submitting a Proof of English Proficiency Exemption Form.
- Exemption includes: Being a citizen of certain countries, receiving a diploma from a U.S. high school, having taken a college-level English course at a U.S. college, having a degree from an accredited U.S. college, completing IELI at the University of North Texas, or having the “Mode of Instruction” listed as English on your foreign transcript evaluation.
- Proof must be submitted along with your ELP Exemption form.
- TOEFL, IELTS, and Pearson PTE scores are valid for two years from the test date.
- TOEFL IBT (Internet-Based Test):
- For exams taken before January 21, 2026, we accept a minimum score of 71.
- For exams taken on or after January 21, 2026, we accept a minimum score of 4.
- Use code 6245 to report your scores to NCTC.
- Testing dates and locations are available at toefl.org
- IELTS (Academic):
- We accept a minimum overall band score of 6.0.
- Please contact the test center where you took the IELTS test directly and request that your official test scores be sent electronically using the IELTS system. All IELTS test centers worldwide are able to send scores electronically to our institution.
- Pearson PTE (Academic):
- We accept a minimum score of 49.
If you did not include your home country address in your application, please send it in an email to international@nctc.edu.
- Provide the first page of a lease agreement that includes your name and the address that you will be staying at or other official documentation listing your address.
- Address should be within the DFW area, or close enough to an NCTC campus for you to reasonably commute.
- If you will be residing with a sponsor, the sponsor must complete the Affidavit of Sponsor Providing Free Room and Board form.
- Information regarding on-campus student housing can be found through Residence Life.
After Arriving in the United States
- The bottom of page one should be signed and dated in blue ink.

- Retrieve your most recent electronic I-94 from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
- After taking the TSI placement tests at NCTC, you must submit your scores to international@nctc.edu.
- If you have taken TSI assessments at another school and would like to send them to NCTC, Please complete this form: TSI Cross-Institution Request
- Exemption from TSI
- If you waited until arriving to get your meningitis vaccination, you must submit proof that you have received it before you can enroll in classes.
- This requirement will be fulfilled when your visa and signed I-20 are submitted, no action is needed to complete this.
- Acceptable documentation can be found through the Department of Public Safety.
Transferring from Another Institution

Currently on another U.S. visa
NCTC does not currently assist students with changing their status to F-1 from another visa type that is not eligible to study in the U.S.
If you are interested in changing to F-1, you must be admitted to another institution who can assist with this before transferring to NCTC.
