Join us for a lecture on the U.S. Navy Birthday with speaker Dr. Donald K. Mitchener.

The United States Navy holds a dominant position among the navies of the world today. Such has not always been the case, however. We recognize the birthday of the U.S. Navy every 13 October, and rightly so, but we always have the highly capable force of today in mind as we celebrate. In my presentation, I will talk first about the birth of a fragile U.S. Navy during the time of the American Revolution. I will end with the establishment of a permanent Department of the Navy on 30 April 1798.
