CASP Honors North Central Texas College's English Department as Distinguished Texas Best Program for 2023

College Academic Support Programs (CASP) has named North Central Texas College's English Department with the CASP Best Program of the Year Award for 2023. This prestigious award is a testament to the department's remarkable achievements in the field of developmental education and its outstanding contributions to the academic community.

In the fall of 2018, North Central Texas College's First-Year Composition program initiated an ambitious and groundbreaking project, affectionately known as the "Textbook Project." The primary objective of this initiative was to provide community college students with innovative, imaginative, and inspiring classroom experiences that would align with the high-impact opportunities available to their counterparts at four-year universities. This project has been demonstrated notable improvement in student success and retention in both face-to-face and online courses. From 2018 to 2022, the division had a 10% improvement in face-to-face students’ success and a 16% improvement in online students’ success. For students in Development English (INRW), their success rates during this time have improved by 20%.

The award was presented to the North Central Texas College English Department at their 2023 conference on October 6, 2023.
