STUDENT & ALUMNI STORIES

Making my Dreams Come True

“I am 44 years old and I am currently a second semester student in the Associate Degree Nursing program at NCTC.  In my younger years, I’d always dreamed of working in healthcare.”

  • “By watching nurses in 2020 carry us through the pandemic I was inspired. My dream came true and in late 2020, my nursing school journey began. I was not confident at first but made it through the first semester and soon realized I can do this.
Unfortunately, I found myself unable to pay for classes. “My heart was broken” and a week later I sent an email explaining my situation and how I would have to quit the program. Within minutes, I received a response urging me not to give up. I was soon awarded a scholarship that helped me pay for classes and help validate this is what I should be doing.
I can’t even tell you how excited I am to one day become a member of the amazing nursing community that inspired me to reach for my dream. I’d like to thank the generous donors, from the bottom of my heart, for shining light on my path. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who took part in helping me find my way. I’m still very much on this journey because of you.

I am forever and deeply grateful,

Woud not be possible without this support

“I am currently a sophomore finishing up my second to last semester of school here at NCTC. I plan on transferring to UNT for the Fall to double major in both Psychology and Music. My hope is to land a career in the field of Forensic Psychology.

  • I am also involved with the campus side of NCTC, being an RA at Bonner Hall. Two years ago….I would not have even thought of myself to be in this position…. going to college, and now planning on transferring to a University.
None of this would be possible if not for the financial relief provided by scholarships. From the Red River Promise to the Foundation Scholarships, there are options at NCTC to further one’s education and help make dreams and aspirations possible. Our generous donors help make these scholarships and futures possible, I am one step closer to fulfilling my academic and professional goals.

Thank you NCTC scholarship donors for what you have made possible,

NCTC holds a special place in my heart

“As an NCTC Alumni, I was fortunate to receive assistance from the NCTC Foundation and Catholic Charities which allowed me to pursue my education and obtain my dream of a career in the healthcare field.”

  • NCTC holds a special place in my heart because this is the place where I completed my dual credit hours as a junior and senior while attending Graham high school. Then my senior year I was accepted to the LVN program and attended the summer after high school graduation.

I always saw myself going to college and getting a degree in the medical field…. going off to college wasn’t an option when I became a teen parent in high school. I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from furthering my education, I attended NCTC on grants and scholarships because of my academic achievements and I was a Catholic charities scholarship recipient as was my husband who received a degree in welding technology from NCTC. So, if it weren’t for scholarships like Catholic Charities and places like NCTC, we wouldn’t have our successful and rewarding careers we have now.

I can’t express how important our donors are, and now with the Red River Promise scholarship, we want to make sure we have the community support for the upcoming classes. We all need to give support and encouragement for higher education, despite where anyone comes from, and financial instability should never be a reason why anyone does not attend college. I want to thank you all so much for supporting NCTC. You have helped so many students achieve their academic goals, myself included.

Thank you for all that you do,
