COMM 2300 - MEDIA LITERACY
Criticism and analysis of the function, role, and responsibility of the mass media in modern society from the consumer perspective. Includes the ethical problems and issues facing each media format, with the effect of political, economic, and cultural factors on the operation of the media.
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an ability to critically analyze messages and points of view used in different media (e.g. websites, news programs, advertisements, films, video games, print media).
Demonstrate an understanding of mass media and its effects in different contexts.
Demonstrate the ability to create a piece of media individually or collaboratively in a team.
Identify the importance of mass media and how it shapes culture and public opinion.
