Financial Aid

Financial Aid staff assisting a student

The Office of Financial Aid here at NCTC is comprised of a team of dedicated professionals committed to serving students. Our mission is to remove financial barriers, provide students with information to secure the necessary financial resources to meet their educational goals, and access to higher education. We provide students and their families with courteous and efficient financial services while complying with all federal and state policies.

Online Financial Aid System

With the new Financial Aid Portal, you are now able to access all your financial aid information conveniently online. Students can:

  • Check the status of their FAFSA Application
  • View a list of documents the Financial Aid Office has received and a list of documents still outstanding
  • View their financial aid awards
  • View their student loan history from NSLDS
  • Check the status of their student loans for the current year

Important Dates for Financial Aid

June 1 - FAFSA Priority deadline for Fall
November 1 - FAFSA Priority deadline for Spring
April 1 - FAFSA Priority deadline for Summer

Students receiving loans must have completed a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling online at https://studentloans.gov

Attendance must be confirmed in all courses before disbursements will be made.

Students must have an NCTC ID/Debit card and it must be activated to receive disbursements.

Financial Aid Resources

The surest way of securing financial aid is to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). NCTC's school code is 003558.

Types of Financial Aid

Many types of financial aid are available to students in addition to the FAFSA.

Grants add

Unlike a loan, grants do not have to be repaid unless a student reduces his/her course load, never attends class, quits attending class or withdraws from school prior to the completion of the semester. To apply for grants fill out a FAFSA application. Grants are determined by level of income.

Work Study add

Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Texas College Work-Study (CWS) are work programs where the student is eligible to earn up to the amount listed on his/her award letter. All jobs are located on various campus locations and pay minimum wage, currently $8.00 an hour.

Loans add

Student loans, unlike grants and work-study, are borrowed money that must be repaid, with interest. You cannot have these loans canceled because you didn’t get a job in your field of study or due to financial difficulty; it is always wise to let your servicer know of any issues you may have. Loans are legal obligations, so before you take out a student loan, think about the amount you’ll have to repay over the years.

Scholarships add

Scholarships are grants or payments made to support a student's education, awarded on the basis of academic achievement, merit, need, classification, etc. All Scholarships are evaluated and awarded through the Scholarship Office.

Veteran Services add

Veterans of the United States armed forces may be eligible for a broad range of programs and services provided by the VA. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based upon discharge from active military service under anything other than dishonorable conditions, and certain benefits require service during wartime.

Use of Funds

Financial Aid funds are used only to pay for your education expenses at the school that is giving you the money. Education expenses include school charges such as tuition, room and board, fees and indirect expenses such as books, supplies, equipment, dependent child care expenses, transportation and rental or purchase of a personal computer.

Attention ISD counselors!

NCTC staff are available to come to your school to talk with students (and parents) about college admissions, financial aid processes, career choices, or dual credit courses. You can even schedule a campus tour. Make your request here!
