Red River Promise Prepares for New Year, Expanding Opportunities for Local Students
The Red River Promise program is preparing for the launch of a new academic year, continuing its mission to expand access to higher education for students and families across Cooke County, Montague County, and Graham ISD in Young County.
This summer, Red River Promise hosted its annual Promise Counselors Workshop and shared updates during North Central Texas College’s (NCTC) In-Service Faculty and Staff Conference, ensuring both school partners and college faculty are ready to support the incoming Class of 2026.
Since launching in 2022, more than 90 percent of local seniors have pledged their commitment to higher education through Red River Promise. 62 percent have submitted the FAFSA, and over 60 percent have submitted a college admissions application. This fall, the program is celebrating record enrollment, with over 30 percent of the 2025 cohort already enrolled at NCTC.
Red River Promise ensures eligible students have their tuition covered at NCTC, easing the financial burden for families while expanding access to higher education. Through partnerships with multiple universities, students gain affordable pathways to continue their education beyond NCTC. Whether pursuing a trade certification, an associate degree, or earning a bachelor’s degree, Promise Scholars have the flexibility to choose the path that best fits their goals and future careers.
The impact extends beyond finances. Forty-two percent of Promise Scholars are the first in their family to attend college, and most balance work while pursuing their degrees. One Promise student reflected, “Red River Promise team has helped me in so many ways from helping me with college to helping me understand where to go. I was completely clueless until I received help from the team and now, I’m on track, right where I’m supposed to be.”
“Promise is more than a scholarship—it’s a commitment to our students and our region,” said Barbara Stanley, Director of Red River Promise. “With the support of our schools, businesses, and families, we are building stronger pathways from high school to college and career.”
