Medical Coding & Insurance Program Overview

In this Occupational Skills Award program, instruction covers medical terminology through word origin and structure, abbreviations and symbols, surgical and diagnostic procedures, and medical specialties. An introduction to systems and processes for collecting, maintaining, and disseminating primary and secondary health related information including content of health records, documentation requirements, registries, indices, licensing, regulatory agencies, forms, and screens. Student will get an overview of skills and knowledge in ICD and CPT coding and claims forms for reimbursement of medical services and the fundamentals of coding rules, conventions, and guidelines using clinical classification systems. 

This program requires 192 lecture/lab contact hours. Tuition includes all textbooks.

Admission Requirements

  • Age Requirements: 18+ at registration

  • Basic Reading and Math Assessment (CASAS)

  • Proof of High school diploma, GED or transcripts

  • Criminal Background Check
