Gainesville Kiwanis Club Scholarship Endowment
The Gainesville Kiwanis Club has generously endowed $15,000 to support the Red River Promise program. This program provides high school students from rural communities the opportunity to attend college with comprehensive support services and full tuition coverage for two years.

Over 300 NCTC Students Helped Through Emergency Aid Grant
The Texas Emergency Aid Roadmap Grant, funded by the Greater Texas Foundation, is coming to a close while North Central Texas College couldn’t be prouder of the impact the program made on NCTC student’s lives. North Central Texas College and nine other community colleges across the state were awarded this grant to help develop efficient, equitable, and sustainable emergency aid programs to ensure students receive the support they need to persist through financial crises.
NCTC Champions Circle Grand Opening
North Central Texas College, along with the Metroport Chamber of Commerce, celebrated the grand opening of its Career and Technical Training facility, Champions Circle.
Futurist coming to nctc, open to the public
Futurist, author, visionary, and inventor Tom Koulopoulos will be at the North Central Texas College Gainesville Campus on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 7 pm for a presentation on the greatest technological shifts of the 21st century.

NCTC Instructor Doug Akins Awarded Networking Academy Instructor Excellence Award
For the third year in a row NCTC Instructor, Doug Akins has been named a Networking Academy Instructor Excellence Expert for 2023. Professor Akins is recognized as being in the top ten percent of instructors in Cisco Networking Academy, based on learner success and course feedback. Akins earned the award in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2021, and 2022 previously.
NCTC Softball Coach, Van Hedrick Reaches 1,000 Career Wins
Coach Van Hedrick and the NCTC softball team won against Cisco on April 17th, 2024. This win has secured Coach Hedrick his 1,000th career win.
Van Hedrick has been the only head softball coach in the 25-year history of the North Central Texas College program. After serving as the assistant baseball coach at NCTC for several years, he started the softball program from scratch in 1999.
Cooke County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan Update
In coordination with Cooke County, the Cities of: Callisburg, Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster, Valley View, Towns of: Oak Ridge, Roadrunner, Independent School Districts (ISDs) of: Callisburg, Era, Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster, Sivell’s Bend, Valley View, Walnut Bend, and North Central Texas College, are updating the Cooke County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

NCTC Centennial Gala
The North Central Texas College Foundation held its annual Starlite Gala Saturday, April 6th, 2024, honoring individuals and organizations that have given of their time and resources to further NCTC and their local communities. With this year being NCTC’s 100th Anniversary, the event honored donors, students, and community members who have been pivotal in the college’s success.
100 Hours of Community Service
Celebrating 100 Years by Serving Our Community for 100 Hours
On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, NCTC held a ‘Day of Service’ in which all staff were welcome to participate by spending the day volunteering locally. With the goal to reach a total of 100 combined community service hours in honor of NCTC’s 100-year anniversary in mind, 70 staff members total volunteered in Denton County, Cooke County, Graham, and Bowie.
NCTC Shining Bright for 100 Years
North Central Texas College is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and to celebrate, the Gainesville Campus is lit up in the college's colors, Blue and White. Founded in 1924 by Randolph Lee Clark, NCTC is the oldest, continuously operating two-year college in Texas. NCTC began as Gainesville Junior College, an extension of the local public school system, in 3 rooms of the Newsome Dougherty Memorial High School building in Gainesville.
Nominations open for Foundation awards
The North Central Texas College Foundation is now accepting nominations for special awards that will be presented at the annual NCTC Foundation Gala in April.
NCTC celebrates graduates
North Central Texas College hosted two commencement ceremonies on December 15th at the Gainesville campus to honor the Fall 2023 graduates. More than 400 students applied for graduation at NCTC this fall and 256 participated in the graduation ceremonies.
NCTC launches statewide course sharing initiative pilot
North Central Texas College is proud to announce the launch of its Course Sharing pilot program, starting this spring, in coordination with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
NCTC Drama to hold auditions in Denton
NCTC Drama announces auditions for The Drowning Girls by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, and Daniela Vlaskalic and being directed by Missy Embrey. The auditions are on December 4 & 5 at 6:30 PM at the NCTC Denton Campus Black Box Theater. Needed are 3 Women ages 18 and up.
NCTC recognized by Texas Pathways Institute
North Central Texas College was recently awarded the 2023 Recognition of Scaling Excellence (ROSE) Award from the Texas Pathways Institute in Houston, TX.
NCTC Foundation honors donors and scholarship recipients
The North Central Texas College Foundation celebrated the accomplishments of students and the donors who helped provide scholarships for those students at the annual Donor and Scholar Breakfast Friday at Lions Gym on the NCTC Gainesville campus.
NCTC Drama Fall/Christmas Production
NCTC announces performances for its Fall/Christmas production at both the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts and the NCTC Denton Campus Black Box Theater. The production is a world premiere of The Life and Times of Ignorance Christmas that has been adapted for the stage by Thom Talbott-Garcia.
