NCTC welcomes fourth graders for Farm City Week

North Central Texas College hosted nearly 700 fourth grade students, teachers and parents from around North Texas for the annual Farm City Week on its Gainesville campus.

Students learned about the agriculture industry through special speakers and hands-on demonstrations.

The two-day educational experience was hosted by the NCTC, Cooke & Denton County Farm Bureaus, and the Cooke County Extension Service.

Students spent time at several stations to get a first-hand look at different aspects of the agriculture industry.Among the stations were demonstrations and speakers from Cooke and Denton County Farm Bureaus, Texas Parks and Wildlife, PenTex Energy, Fisher’s Meat Market, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Cooke County 4-H, Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Classroom, Jeff Hoegger, Dairy Farmers of America, Cooke County Extension Service, Gainesville FFA Officers, and North Central Texas College.

Blue Bell Ice Cream, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Southwest Dairy Farmers, Dairy Farmers of America, the extension service, Fischer’s Meat Market, & Texas Farm Bureau have participated in Farm City Week since its beginning in 2000.

NCTC Agriculture students along with officers from Gainesville FFA served as group leaders and speakers for the groups of fourth graders. 

Sponsors for the event included Quasar, Red River Farm Co-Op, Barthold Tire and Auto, NCTC, Independence Equine, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, Refinery Road Vet Clinic, Nortex Communications and Klement Cattle.
