Graduates honored at Spring 2018 Commencement

North Central Texas College hosted two commencement ceremonies on May 11 at the Gainesville campus to honor the Spring 2018 graduates.

In an afternoon ceremony, graduates of Health Sciences and Cosmetology programs were honored. Later that evening, a ceremony was held for graduates of Career and Technical Education programs, and graduates of Arts and Sciences programs.

More than 720 students applied for graduation at NCTC this spring and over 400 participated in the graduation ceremonies.

Eighteen students graduated Summa Cum Laude with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.00. They included Alexis Arnold, Adia Compton, Ryan Eubank, Joseph Forman, Bryin Garofalo, Feliciano Juarez, Fariha Khan, Francisco Magana Williamson, Antonio Orta Williamson, Mimi Panarisi, Natalie Price, Russell Stephen Phillips, Sara Saeed, Luke Shirley, Regina Shumaker, Anne Ulmer, Stephanie Westall, and Lauren Wilbur.

Nine other students graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.90-3.99. They included James Cummings, Haven Erdman, Mary Helen Herrington, Melissa Anne Hoxsie, Brandon Klinko, Abigail Livingston, Jane Nyakundi, John Travis, and Kimberly Wentrcek.

Graduates from the NCTC Honors Program included Qazi Ahmed, Adia Compton, Ethan Gaston, Rodolfo Gomez, Sara Saeed, and Itzel Tapia.

This semester, four students graduated from the NCTC Collegiate Academy, an innovative program that was implemented Fall 2013 with Gainesville High School, Lake Dallas High School, and Steele Accelerated High School – Northwest ISD as pilot school partners. These four students graduated from NCTC with their Associate Degrees, while still in high school: Tyler Goldworthy, Ruth Salmeron, and Jazmin Tejeda from Gainesville High School and Fariha Khan from the STEM Academy.

Sixteen high school seniors also graduated from NCTC with Workforce Certificates. Maria Paola Mendez of Gainesville High School graduated with a Workforce Certificate in Cosmetology. Lake Dallas seniors Gretchen Buch, Benjamin Jackson, Laura Lewis, Natalie Price, Eric Robinson, Daniel Soileau, Kristin Taylor, Samuel Trotter, and Robert Venegas graduated with Workforce Certificates in Fire Science. Gainesville Homeschool senior Sergio Flores and Gainesville High School seniors Emmanuel Huerta, Ruby Perez, Humberto Ramos, and Ivan Rincon graduated with Workforce Certificates in Welding. Gainesville High School senior Antonio Cabral graduated with a Workforce Certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

NCTC Provost Dr. Andrew Fisher presented the certification of graduates for the Class of 2018, and NCTC Chancellor Dr. Brent Wallace conferred the degrees. Dr. Wallace also delivered the keynote message to the graduates.

The NCTC Choir, led by Shane Studdard, sang the National Anthem, and the NCTC Wind Ensemble, led by Chris McGinty, provided music before the ceremonies.
