Fore family establishes scholarship at NCTC

Siblings Karla Metzler and Todd Fore have established a scholarship fund at North Central Texas College to honor their parents and the importance of education that their parents instilled in them.

“We are so happy to create this scholarship in honor of our parents, Travis and LaMarylis Fore,” said Metzler. “As we age it only seems appropriate to reflect back on all of those who helped us achieve our dreams. The requirement for Todd and I to earn a degree from a higher education institution was very important to our parents. We both took classes at NCTC and transferred to other four-year institutions to finish our degrees.”

Karla Metzler finished her Bachelor’s Degree at Texas Woman’s University and married Johnny Metzler. They have two sons who also attended NCTC.

Mezler has served on the NCTC Board of Regents for ten years, serving as Chair since July 2015.

The Fore’s raised their kids in Nocona, Texas before moving to Gainesville to be close to their grandkids. Todd Fore went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Christian University, a Master’s Degree from Midwestern State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.

“My parents are the reason that I was able to reach my Ph.D.,” said Todd. “They were very motivational and made sure that we were very driven to better ourselves. I’m honored to be able to give back to the community in this way.”

Preference for this scholarship will be given to applicants who have financial need and are residents of Cooke or Montague Counties.

“I am excited by the thought that someone who really cannot afford to go to college will be able to attend NCTC thanks to this scholarship,” said Travis Fore. “I remember when both of my kids were in college at the same time, I was in business for myself and I worked a lot of late days to help them through.”

“Establishing this scholarship in honor of our parents will allow others the same opportunity provided to us,” added Metzler. “We are interested in helping other students take the education they receive and make an impact on the community and the world in which we live. We can’t think of any better legacy for our parents than to help other students who need help to obtain the degree of their choice and ultimately achieve their dreams.”
