Retired Brigadier General Michael Cates and his wife Linda have established an endowed scholarship for students of North Central Texas College.

In 2013, the Cates purchased a vacation home in Lake Kiowa, TX that allowed them to be closer to family. They decided to move into the home after retirement, and have since learned about the higher education offered at NCTC.

“We have been impressed with everything we have heard and seen regarding student education at NCTC,” said Linda Cates. “We have been long time supporters of education, and we now see the value and impact that community colleges have made and can make for future students.”

The BG (Ret) Michael and Linda N. Cates Scholarship Fund will be available to any student attending NCTC, with priority given to students in health science programs and military veterans and spouses.

Students must submit an application to the NCTC Scholarship Committee who will select a student they feel best deserves the scholarship.

Over the past thirty years, the NCTC Foundation was awarded over 20,000 scholarships valued at over $7.2 million to assist students in reaching their educational goals.

“We think higher education is very important for the future workforce in Texas and the United States, and scholarships are an essential piece to assist students toward their educational goals,” Linda Cates said.
