Mini-golf tournament raises money for scholarships

Community members, business leaders, school administrators and students came together to participate in the 15th Annual North Central Texas College Denton County Foundation Miniature Golf Tournament, raising money for scholarships for Denton County students.

In its 15-year history, the tournament has raised more than $200,000 for scholarships thanks to the support of sponsors and participants, enabling the foundation to assist students in obtaining their education through scholarships.

This year’s tournament, which was held on Sept. 19 at Zone Action Park in Lewisville, raised over $22,000 for the scholarship fund.

NCTC has been serving Denton County at the Corinth campus since 2000. Southern Denton County is served by the Flower Mound campus.

The fundraiser not only featured miniature golf, but there was also a barbecue dinner and a Scholarship Scramble for a pair of diamond earrings and other large prizes.

The Denton Fire Department team finished in first place. That team included Roger White, Jay Seiler, Dan Conrad, Donnie Carr. The second-place team was Gohlke Pools, included Bob Tanner, Matthew Gray, Channing Smith, Dale Rhoades. The third-place team was True Signs & Installation. Members of their team included David and Jessica True.

Bob Tanner was the lowest score individual, while Ike Stevenson was the second lowest score individual.

Gohlke Pools was the corporate challenge winner, while the Public Servant Challenge winner was the Denton Police Department.

NCTC also gave an award to the NCTC department that had the largest percentage of players in the tournament. The winner, NCTC Cosmetology, will be able to award one NCTC student of their choice a $500 scholarship.

Proceeds from this event will be used for scholarships for students attending the Corinth and Flower Mound campuses. The Spring scholarship deadline is Oct. 15 and students can go to to apply for a scholarship online.
