Suggested Databases

Alt Health Watch
Provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine with indexing and abstracts from 1985 to the present and full text from 1990 to the present. This database focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic, and integrated approaches to health care and wellness, with full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research, and book excerpts.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text
The core research tool for all areas of nursing and allied health literature, with full text coverage from 1937 to the present. This database provides full text for more than 770 journals indexed in CINAHL Plus, with no embargo for many of the most used journals.

Gale OneFile: Health and Medicine
This multi-source database provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus a wide variety of personal health information sources, such as journals, consumer health magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, newspaper articles, topical interviews, and key reference books.

Health Source: Consumer
This database is the richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing access to nearly 80 full text, consumer health magazines on many health topics in medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine, and general health.

Health Source: Nursing / Academic
Provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. This database also features the AHFS Consumer Medication Information, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 names.

This Spanish language database is a unique collection of medical research and investigative journals from renowned Latin American and Spanish publishers, with full text for 130 peer-reviewed medical in native Spanish.

Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health-care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarch, subheadings, and explosion capabilities to search citations from over 5,400 current biomedical journals.

Natural & Alternative Treatments
Updated weekly, this database contains more than 700 evidence-based articles developed and reviewed by a team of physicians and pharmacologists covering medical conditions, alternative therapies, herbs and supplements, functional foods, drug interactions, and homeopathy.

Nursing Education in Video
This is a unique collection of videos created for the education and training of nurses, nursing assistants, and other healthcare workers. All of the videos in the collection have been created with the guidance of the Medcom-Trainex advisory board and are regularly reviewed for accuracy, currency, and compliance with U.S. Federal regulations from agencies such as OSHA and CMS.

This database is the Spanish-language version of EBSCO's Consumer Health Complete.

Cancer Statistics Center
Uses data from the Society's annual Cancer Facts & Figures report as well as much, much more data, to create a comprehensive interactive resource. Detailed statistics are available on a range of topics including: estimated new cancer cases and deaths by sex, state, and cancer type in the current year; current cancer incidence, mortality, and survival rates and trends for individual cancer sites; and risk factors and screening rates by state. Researchers can use the website to view and download maps, graphs, and charts; create custom downloadable maps, graphs, and charts; export data to Excel; and share specific statistics that are important to readers.

Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy
Describes symptoms, common clinical procedures, and laboratory tests for all but the most obscure medical disorders, for use by health care professionals.

National Center for Health Statistics
Government agency providing extensive statistical information on health status, lifestyle, illness, disability, and the use of health care. Includes the full text of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

National Guidelines Clearinghouse
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) National Guideline Clearinghouse is a public resource for summaries of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
