Defining Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity at NCTC is the practice of acknowledging individual differences and systemic disparities when developing programs and leveraging resources to ensure balanced educational opportunities toward completion. Equity is fair treatment for all while identifying and eliminating barriers that prevent full participation for others.

Diversity most commonly refers to differences in race, ethnicity, and gender. NCTC additionally embraces other diversities such as thought, perspectives and values, age, national origin, religion, disability, veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, non-native English speakers, immigrants and people with varying abilities who (or with the intersection of one or more identities) historically experience barriers to opportunities and resources.

Inclusion is the practice of creating space or environments where anyone can experience feelings of welcome, respect, and support.
