Cosmetology Certificate
The 34 semester hour curriculum in cosmetology leads to a Level 1 Workforce Certificate and helps prepare graduates to take the state TDLR Cosmetology Examination. Successful completion of the examination will allow graduates to practice as a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Texas.
Upon completion of the Level 1 Workforce Certificate, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate introductory skills, professional ethics, and safety and sanitation procedures as required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations
- Provide safe and appropriate care to clients receiving hair, skin or nail services
- Use effective communication skills with client
- Demonstrate proficiency in business and ethical practices relating to the field of Cosmetology
- Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for successful completion of the state licensing examination
This certificate is a pathway to the Cosmetology Associate of Applied Science degree.
Fees associated with the Cosmetology Certificate are as follows and are included in tuition:
- Kit costs, which include all supplies needed during course of program. This fee includes trolley, set of professional shears, all professional electric tools, and all hair supplies needed (i.e., combs/brushes, coloring bowls/brushes, capes, clips, pins, manicuring set, etc.). Kit fees will be divided between first two 8-week semesters and will be included in tuition.
- First 8-week kit will be approximately $1,447
- Second & third 8-week kit will be approximately $1,057
- Textbooks, approximately $394
- Supply Fees, $200
- Fees to take state licensure exams, $122
- TDLR Permit Fee, $25
- Liability Insurance, $9-$24 total
Uniform will consist of scrubs of student's choice. Student will be required to purchase a vest or smock. First name must be monogrammed on vest or smock.
This certificate is offered through hybrid and face-to-face classes.
Students will enroll into two courses per 8-week session for a total of 8 courses to be completed in four sessions with a total of 34 semester credit hours (SCH). Students must pass these courses successfully to proceed to next course in sequence. Summer semesters are 10 weeks.
1st 8-week session: 8 SCH
2nd 8-week session: 9 SCH
3rd 8-week session: 8 SCH
4th 8-week session: 9 SCH
