Racial Profiling Prohibited

The North Central Texas College Police Department fully complies with the Texas Racial Profiling Law (SB 1074).

One of the requirements of the Law is:

Each law enforcement agency in this state shall adopt a detailed written policy on racial profiling. This policy must implement a process by which an individual may file a complaint with the agency if the individual believes that a peace officer employed by the agency has engaged in racial profiling with respect to the individual" (CCP Art. 2.132 (b)(3).

The North Central Texas College Police Department has an established policy prohibiting racial profiling in accordance with state and federal law. This policy is strictly enforced, and the department will take immediate and appropriate action to investigate any allegations of racial profiling. The policy applies to all members of the department, both commissioned and non-commissioned.

It is the policy of the North Central Texas College Police Department to accept and fully investigate all complaints against the department, or its members, and to obtain a final disposition to those complaints so as to maintain the integrity of the department and secure the support it needs from the community.

Racial profiling is a law enforcement action that is motivated by an individual's race, ethnicity, or national origin.

What is the complaint process? add

The department shall accept complaints from any person who believes that they were stopped, searched, inappropriately ticketed, or arrested based on racial, ethnic, or national origin profiling. No person shall be discouraged, intimidated, or otherwise impeded from filing a complaint concerning racial profiling.

How do I make a complaint? add

Complaints against members of NCTC PD may be made by letter or in person to the Chief of Police. No matter how the complaint is made, it is the responsibility of the Chief of Police to inform the complainant of the proper procedure for filing the complaint. Complaints involving police personnel must be sworn under oath and notarized.

What happens to a complaint after it is received? add

All complaints are investigated to determine the nature of the allegation, the type of allegation, and the facts surrounding the allegation.
