TRIO Student Support Services is a federally-funded college opportunity program that motivates and supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. The program is dedicated to increasing the retention and graduation rates for low income, first-generation, and/or students with documented disabilities at North Central Texas College.

Mission

The TRIO Student Support Services program’s mission is to develop and equip historically underrepresented student populations with skills, experiences, and academic practices that assist them in achieving their educational goals. The TRIO SSS program is dedicated to providing a supportive environment that encourages student success.

Vision

The NCTC TRIO Student Support Services program will be a model program, recognized for best practices and strategies in promoting retention and graduation of its participants.

Objectives

Objective 1: PERSISTENCE RATE

70% of all participants served by the SSS project will persist from one academic year to the beginning of the next academic year or graduate and/or transfer from NCTC to a 4-year institution during the academic year.

Objective 2: GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING

79% of all enrolled participants served by the SSS project will meet the performance level required to stay in good academic standing at the institution.

Objective 3: GRADUATION RATE

18% of new participants served each year will graduate with an associate’s degree or certificate within four years, and 23% of the new participants served each year will transfer with an associate’s degree or certificate within four years.

This grant has been 100% federally funded by the United States Department of Education to serve 165 participants annually.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled at NCTC
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Meet at least one of the following criteria
    • First generation college student - neither parent graduated from a four-year university
    • Meet federal income guidelines
    • Have a documented disability

Requirements

  • Visit with your TRIO Advisor/Coach at LEAST three times per semester

  • Participate in tutoring to increase your GPA (if necessary)

  • Participate in different workshops offered

  • Participate in cultural and social activities designated to enrich your college experience

  • Attend college visits if you are planning on transferring to a 4-year university
