Local church hosts fishing event supporting NCTC students

Argyle United Methodist Church hosted their 3rd Annual - Casting for a Causefishing event on Saturday, March 30, 2019.  The annual event is a fundraiser which supports both North Central Texas College scholarships for students exhibiting financial need AND the Denton Wesley Foundation - Shiloh Food Pantry, a food bank for college students at UNT, NCTC, and TWU.

The 2019 event was a huge success, raising over $9,000, and bringing the 3-year event total to nearly $20,000. “We expanded Casting For A Causethis year utilizing online raffle ticket sales that included over $3,000 of items donated to the event,” said Event Director, Brad Cozart. “It is exciting to see the event grow and to be able to impact the lives of college students in north Texas.  The opportunity to teach our children to fish, all while raising money to provide NCTC scholarships and support the Denton Wesley Foundation in closing the food insecurity gap among college students here in north Texas makes for a great community event.  The weather this year was less than favorable with temperatures in the low 50’s and a 25-mph wind.  Fishing guides all over north Texas were canceling their fishing trips.  The fact that our kids landed 19 fish on Saturday morning around the pond was remarkable.”

The Argyle UMC – Men’s Group made over 160 tacos for breakfast, along with donuts, coffee, and juice. The participants were awarded medals for winning catches every hour and door prizes were given out to the participants throughout the 3-hour event.
