NCTC Regents Approve Tax Rate

Regents of the North Central Texas Community College District met Monday night and approved the 2018 – 2019 Proposed Tax Rate. The board set the maintenance and operations tax rate at 0.0808 per $100 valuation and the interest and sinking tax rate at 0.0294. This makes for a combined rate of .1102 for 2018 versus .1208 in 2017.

After a normal financial report from Vice Chancellor of Fiscal Affairs Dr. Janie Neighbors, the board heard a Quarterly External Funding Report from Vice Chancellor of External Affairs Debbie Sharp.

The NCTC Foundation launched their third annual Employee Giving Campaign and raised more than $55,000 from full-time NCTC Faculty and Staff. Over 76% of employees participated and donated money for student scholarships.

The Foundation has awarded over 600 scholarships so far for the Fall 2018 semester, valued at $195,053. The Foundation’s total assets are $9,997,225.

The board accepted the resignation of Regent Patsy Wilson, whose term expires in 2021. Wilson served on the board for one 6-year term before the current term.

The board also approved the 2018-2019 NCTC Budget, which included a 3% raise for all full-time employees.

Regents were also assigned to subcommittees for the year. Karla Meztler will chair the Executive Committee, with members Christy Morris and Dick Haayen. Christy Morris will chair the Finance Committee with member Dick Haayen. Jon Grime will chair the Building Committee with member Matt Chalmers. Jerry Henderson will Chair the Student Success Committee and will work with the NCTC Student Government Association Officers for student input on this committee.

Regents conducted Dr. Wallace’s yearly evaluation in Executive Session and his three-year contract was extended for one more year, through 2021.

Regents Jerry Don Henderson and Patsy Wilson were unable to attend Monday’s meeting.
