North Central Texas College and First State Bank held a reutilization and naming ceremony Thursday for the college’s new downtown Denton location, The First State Bank Exchange at North Central Texas College.

“The First State Bank Exchange at North Central Texas College in Denton will serve as a hub for higher education and community engagement by serving the students of Denton County and aiding in the ease of concurrent enrollment between the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University,” said NCTC Chancellor Dr. Brent Wallace.

First State Bank announced a gift of $1 million for the expansion of NCTC’s educations services and the reutilization of the new building.

“When we decide how to invest to create the biggest impact and benefit to our community, it is clear that nothing is more impactful than a long-term investment in education,” stated Ryan Morris, CEO, First State Bank. “For this reason, I’m honored to announce our gift of one million dollars.”

The college first announced their intent to lease a space in downtown Denton in October 2017 and NCTC Regents took another step toward establishing this center at their May 2018 meeting, approving a resolution authorizing the execution and delivery of a lease-purchase contract for the district’s use of leased property as an educational facility.

The Exchange will be located in the old Denton Record-Chronicle building, at 314 E. Hickory Street.

Course offerings at the Exchange will focus on Associate of Arts degrees, Associate of Science degrees, and academic transfer courses, allowing students to be concurrently enrolled in NCTC and UNT or TWU.

“NCTC already has strong partnerships with both UNT and TWU,” said NCTC Provost Dr. Andrew Fisher. “This location in downtown Denton will only further the opportunities available to students in the area.”

“I am thrilled and honored with this extension of First State Bank’s partnership with North Central Texas College, one that spans over forty years,” said Morris. “The investment we are making in higher education, workforce training and the continued development of Downtown Denton, supports a key part of the bank’s mission statement of treating our community like our home, and our customers like neighbors.”

The First State Bank Exchange at North Central Texas College in Denton is set to open in Fall 2019.

“This will be a place where there is an exchange of ideas and an exchange of commerce among higher education, Denton ISD, and Denton businesses,” said Wallace. “We are thankful for the generous support of First State Bank and look forward to expanding our partnership with them.”
