NCTC Petroleum Technology welcomes oilfield workers seeking college degree

The Petroleum Technology Program at North Central Texas College prepares students for entry-level careers in various sectors of the industry. It also enhances the value, opportunities, and earning power of students already employed in the industry, and offers alternatives for oilfield workers who are seeking new opportunities.

A significant number of students in the program have oilfield experience. Some are currently employed in the petroleum industry; some are not. “They all have one thing in common: they want to work in the oilfield and are looking for new opportunities. Even though they have experience in the industry, many of them find that our curriculum improves their understanding of the industry either through explaining the theory behind familiar practices, or through introducing them to other areas of the industry,” said Malea Clarke, Department Chair.

Besides the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the petroleum industry, completing a degree can open doors to new opportunities within the industry.

The program offers both a Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science Degree. The coursework focuses on the basics of the petroleum industry, involves about 50% hands-on learning activities, and emphasizes safety and teamwork.  The hands-on learning aspect will be greatly enhanced next year after completion of the new Industrial Technology Center at the Bowie Campus.

The next semester starts Monday, August 28, 2017 and registration is open now. For more information, check out the college website at or call 940-872-4002. For information about applying, registering, or financial aid, ask for those departments. For more information about the Petroleum Technology program, ask for Malea Clarke.
