NCTC Faculty attend Community College Day

Jane England | Mar 10, 2017

On February 23, 2017 NCTC faculty members Pat Ledbetter and Jane England traveled to Austin to attend the Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) annual convention and to participate in the biennial TCCTA Community College Day at the Capitol. During each legislative session TCCTA provides transportation from the convention hotel to the Legislature so that community college employees can visit the legislators who represent their respective service areas.

The NCTC faculty members spent Thursday morning, February 23, at the Capitol meeting with staff members for Senators Craig Estes (District 30) and Jane Nelson (District 12). Additionally, Representatives Drew Springer (District 68) and Lynn Stucky (District 64) took time out of their busy schedules to discuss educational issues and policies that affect the lives and futures of community college students and employees. Specific concerns discussed were adequate funding and support for students’ financial aid. Professor England pointed out that a large percentage of NCTC students receive financial aid. “Fortunately, our representatives assured us of their continued support,” she noted.

Professor Ledbetter commented, “We are especially grateful to our representatives for sharing their insights into current legislation and for their commitment to promoting quality educational opportunities for our students.”
