The North Central Texas College Spring Horse Judging team made a strong showing at the National Collegiate Spring Horse Judging Contest held on the NCTC campus April 21.

The NCTC team of Caitlin Darden of Henrietta, Christy Petry of Azle, Johana Jarosova of the Czech Republic and Bre Henderson of Azle ranked sixth in the Halter and Performance division, seventh in Reasons and sixth overall.

Competitors are scored on their ability to correctly rank horses in a variety of equestrian events and are then evaluated on their oral presentations or "reasons" to justify their rankings on four to six of the events judged at a competition.

On May 1-2, horse judging team members past and present will once again be judging the David Cook Memorial Cowboy Challenge in LaGrange.

The students' summer break will include practices at area ranches, shows and youth judging competitions in preparation for the fall competitive judging season. Tentatively, fall competitions will include the National Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio; Arabian Nationals in Tulsa, Okla., as well as the World Championship Quarter Horse show and the National Reining Horse Futurity contests in Oklahoma City.
