A couple of well-known productions highlight the 2014-15 season schedule for the North Central Texas College Drama department.

"The Rocky Horror Show" will hit the stage at the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 24-25, 30-31 and Nov. 1.

Auditions for "The Rocky Horror Show" are set for 7 p.m., on Sept. 8-9 at the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts in Gainesville. Directors will be looking to fill a cast of 15. Anyone over the age of 17 is welcome to audition, whether they are an NCTC student or not. There will be a singing audition and an acting audition.

NCTC Drama Director Thom Talbott, who will also serve as the director for "The Rocky Horror Show," says there are certain criteria used to choose the productions each season.

"When we are looking for shows, number one we look at the students that we have here now and who we think might be coming," he said. "We also look at what we think the students would enjoy doing. That's one of the reasons that we do things like 'Rocky Horror', because it's a very popular show and students enjoy doing it and later on saying that 'I was in Rocky Horror.' We also think about what shows could potentially sell to crowds."

David Rowland will be the musical director for "The Rocky Horror Show," while Dan Doss will be the technical director and designer.

Another highlight of the season will come next summer when a full production of "Man of La Mancha" is held in Gainesville in June to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts.

"When we opened the CPA, we did a huge musical section from 'Man of La Mancha' because we were celebrating the impossible dream, that whole idea that we were actually going to build a performing arts center on the Gainesville campus and we succeeded," NCTC Drama Director Thom Talbott said. "So we wanted to celebrate that tenth anniversary by doing a full-blown production of 'Man of La Mancha.'"

Also this season, the Drama department will perform two plays in Denton County. Last year they turned a lecture hall on the NCTC Flower Mound campus into a performance space, but this year they have rented the MCL Grand Box Theater in Lewisville for a pair of shows.

"We are excited about going to Denton County and getting to do shows down there of a higher caliber," Talbott said. "One will be tied to a production class and tied to the over-arching NCTC project on the Strands of the Great War. Then we will be doing a completely open audition for the Corinth and Flower Mound campus show called 'Silence' which is sort of like 'Game of Thrones' meets modern, sexual politics. So it's a really interesting blend."

The 2014-15 season kicks off in October with "The Bully Plays" which will be a field-trip opportunity for area middle school and high school students. "The Rocky Horror Show" will debut in October. In November, "Post Mortem" will hit the stage in Lewisville. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is set for December in Gainesville. Then in February, "Silence" will be produced in Lewisville. The final show of the season will be "Man of La Mancha" in June in Gainesville.
