The 2014 Texas Junior College Agriculture Association Convention was hosted April 2-4 by Stephen F. Austin University and North Central Texas College was represented.

Community college students representing several community college districts in Texas came to Nacogdoches for this year's convention. Wednesday evening the hosting university provided a meet-n-greet crawfish boil for the participants. On Thursday the students attended a general assembly welcome before breaking into groups to tour the SFA arboretum and compete in public speaking and quiz contests.

NCTC was represented this year by four students including Christy Petry, Trey Ruland, Kayla Barry and Hannah Jacobs.

After the contests, students were provided with a tour of the SFA Agriculture facilities, encompassing over 700 acres north of Nacogdoches, including their chicken production houses, beef farm, equine center, and swine and goat facilities.

Awards were presented at an evening banquet after poster presentations from Texas senior universities. NCTC students won first place in both Agronomy and Equine Science, second place in both Horticulture and Prepared Public Speaking and third place in Animal Science.

Each year the hosting university also provides area industry tours for convention participants. This year SFA arranged for tours of local businesses Bright Coop Company and Norbord OSB plant.

Next year's convention will be hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos.
