NCTC English professor presents at state-wide conference

GAINESVILLE-North Central Texas College English professor Gabrielle Fletcher was chosen to share her knowledge with her peers at the Two-Year English College Association Southwest Chapter (TYCA-SW) Conference held recently in Austin.

The theme for the conference was "Keeping Teaching Weird" and it was hosted by Austin Community College. The conference centered on English pedagogy in the two-year college.

Fletcher's presentation was entitled "Incorporating Success Techniques and the New Texas CORE Objectives in English."

The workshop gave hands-on assignments, projects and advice to assist English faculty in improving student success and engagement as well as incorporating the new Texas Core Objectives of Teamwork and Personal Responsibility into their curriculum.

Also attending the conference was Kristen Weinzapfel, the Chairman of the NCTC English, Speech and Foreign Languages Department.

"I heard many, many compliments on Gabrielle's presentation," Weinzapfel said. "She represented NCTC very well."

Presenters and attendees came from Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Louisiana.
