GAINESVILLE - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and cosmetology students at North Central Texas College are doing their part to not only raise awareness, but also raise money for the cause.

The NCTC Cosmetology department is offering $2 haircuts on Mondays throughout October will all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The students are also giving of their own money by paying $2 themselves each Monday so they can wear pink.

NCTC Cosmetology program coordinator Shirley Meek says it's important for her students to participate in events like this.

"I believe that all of our students have someone in their family or have knowledge of someone that has experienced breast cancer," she said. "I personally have friends that are survivors of breast cancer treatments or surgeries. They have survived and they participate in that breast cancer walk every year. I just thought it would be great for our students to do an outreach program like this."
