GAINESVILLE, TEXAS - Two new scholarships totaling $40,000 have been endowed to the North Central Texas College agriculture department thanks to the generosity of the local community at the recent Friends of Agriculture Roundup and Auction.

Including the most recent endowments, there are now seven Friends of Ag endowed scholarships.

Several members of the Friends of Agriculture advisory board including Vernon Friedrich, Eva Beck and Mike Bartush were on hand to present a check to NCTC President Dr. Eddie Hadlock Tuesday.

The 2011 Friends of Agriculture Roundup and Auction was held in November at the Gainesville Civic Center and was sponsored by First State Bank. The event included a barbecue meal, a silent auction and a live auction, all to raise money for scholarships for deserving students wanting to study agriculture at NCTC.

"Without my scholarship, I would not have been able to attend college," said Jennifer Burrows of Gainesville. "Receiving the Friends of Agriculture Scholarship started me on the path that led to who I am today."

Plans are already underway for the 2012 Roundup. Organizers hope to raise enough money to endow two additional scholarships next year, bringing the total to nine from Friends of Agriculture alone.
