'Sounds of NCTC' Concert Set For March 2

GAINESVILLE, TEXAS - The NCTC Singers, along with the NCTC Jazz Band and Jazz Combo, will take the stage March 2 for the annual "Sounds of NCTC" concert at North Central Texas College.

Sponsored by the NCTC Music Department, the concert program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage of the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts on the NCTC Gainesville Campus.

NCTC SingersThe NCTC Singers are directed by Daniel Banke, and the NCTC Jazz Band is under the direction of Marty Kobuck.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, high school age and younger, and NCTC students may attend at no charge by showing their student ID. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Proceeds from the concert will help send NCTC students to the Crescent City Jazz Festival in New Orleans over Spring Break.

"We are very excited to be accepted to participate in this festival held in the birthplace of Jazz," Kobuck said.

Both Jazz ensembles will perform a variety of Jazz styles including traditional and modern Jazz, according to their director.

The NCTC Singers will also stay true to the Jazz theme with their selections.

"The Singers will perform vocal jazz numbers by Gene Puerling, all of which are sure to be audience favorites," Banke said. "The Singers are also exploring the diverse choral music of numerous foreign countries this semester, including Venezuela, Brazil, Romania, South Africa and others. Some of these pieces will also be represented on the program."
