Work Study


Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Texas College Work-Study (CWS) are work programs where the student is eligible to earn up to the amount listed on his/her award letter. All jobs are located on various campus locations and pay minimum wage, currently $ 8.00 an hour.

Hours per Week

Students can work up to a maximum of 19 hours a week and are paid on the 25th of each month. Please consult your time sheet for due dates. Time sheets must be turned in by NOON on the due date to be paid on the 25th. Late time sheets will be paid the following month.

Eligibility

Students that have financial need and are enrolled at least half-time (6+ hours).

How to Apply

  1. Students will be required to fill out a FAFSA in order to qualify for the work study program which is based upon financial need.
  2. Complete the Financial Aid Work Study Application on MyNCTC to apply for a work study position. When you go onto my NCTC, you will need to log in to see the form. Be sure to list all jobs you are interested in. You must be approved by the Financial Aid Department to proceed.

Your Financial Aid Work Study Application will be reviewed and forwarded to the appropriate NCTC departments for screening. The hiring NCTC department will call you to schedule an interview so be sure that you have a correct email and phone on your application.

On day of the interview

  • Be sure to dress in business attire.
  • Be sure to have a copy of your resume to give to the hiring manager.
  • You will be required to spend time answering questions related to your skills, abilities and people skills, if applicable.

Please arrive to your interview 5 to 10 minutes early!

Hired to Work

If you qualify for a work study job the hiring manager will call you to let you know that you have been hired.

You must report to the Financial Aid Department and follow the steps below to complete the hiring process.

  1. Download, print and complete the W-4
  2. Complete the I-9
  3. Read and download FERPA, print and sign FERPA Signature Page
  4. Download, print and sign Criminal History Forms
  5. Download, print, and sign the Herring Bank Direct Deposit Authorization
  6. Bring your Social Security card and Drivers License to the Financial Aid Office.
  7. Download, print and complete Work Study Appointment Sheet. Take this to your supervisor of the department you will be working in to complete. Once it is signed, please return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Getting Paid

Students can work up to a maximum of 19 hours a week and are paid on the 25th of each month. Please consult your time sheet for due dates. Work-Study Timesheets verify that you have worked the allotted numbers of hours so that payment can be made to you. Time sheets must be completed by the student and signed by his/her supervisor. Time Sheets must be turned into the Financial Aid Office by noon on the due date to be paid on the 25th. It is recommended that you keep a copy of your time sheet for your records.

Work-Study paychecks are now direct deposit. If you have not already filled out the direct deposit form, please either print it, or pick up the form in the Financial Aid Office on campus.

Late time sheets will be paid the following month.
