BIOL2402 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II

This course provides a comprehensive look at the human body’s structure and functions. Topics include how the body maintains homeostasis, the relationship of chemistry to anatomy and physiology, and cell function and division. The skin, skeletal system, muscles, and nervous system are examined. Sensory organs and the endocrine system are also presented. Several diseases and disorders are discussed, and as well as the cause, detection, and treatment of them.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

BIOL2401- Human Anatomy and Physiology I
Textbook(s):

Saladin, Kenneth S., Anatomy & Physiology; The Unity of Form and Function, 5th Edition.

Required Material: Anatomy & Physiology Revealed – Virtual Cadaver Dissection CD – Version 2.0

Required ACCESS CODES: Specific CODE required to access the course material.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • The textbook can be purchased at the NCTC bookstores or online.
  • THE ACCESS CODES CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED AT THE NCTC BOOKSTORES AND ARE PACKAGED WITH THE DISSECTION CD.
  • THE NCTC BOOKSTORE ALSO SELLS A COMPLETE PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDES THE TEXTBOOK, DISSECTION CD, AND THE ACCESS CODES. AGAIN, YOU CAN ONLY PURCHASE THE ACCESS CODES AT THE NCTC BOOKSTORES AND AN ACCESS CODE IS REQUIRED TO BE ENTERED BEFORE ACCESSING THE COURSE MATERIAL. You will be prompted to enter an access code on the WELCOME PAGE of the course. Once you enter an access code, you can begin your course work.

About Labs:

Both lecture and lab portions of this course are conducted online; there is no need to come to campus. The lab portion is conducted using a virtual cadaver dissection program in conjunction with additional lab exercises and activities provided within the course.

QUIZZES and EXAMS:

  • Quizzes and exams are offered ONLY through ANGEL and are timed. You cannot start and stop a quiz or exam and finish it at a later time, it must be completed in the same session. Most importantly, be patient, it takes time to get used to timed tests.
  • In order to be successful with the timed quizzes and exams, you must be well prepared by completing your reading, study and understand the material before attempting the quiz. Remember quizzes and exams are not proctored and are timed to test your knowledge of the material. You will not be successful in this course if you rely on notes to look up answers during quizzes and or exams.
  • This course is demanding, Anatomy & Physiology is a complicated subject often involving many intricate and detailed processes and one cannot expect to do well in the course by skimming the material or by shear memorization. You must approach this course with the intention of understanding the material by taking the time to study each process using the outlines, book, and supplemental website provided in this course.
  • Lecture Exams are given on Sunday nights from 8 - 9 pm, schedule to be determined. Lab exams are given Mon - Wed on selected dates, following the lecture exam. IF YOU CANNOT MEET THE EXAM SCHEDULE, YOU CANNOT TAKE THIS COURSE.

The tentative exam schedule far for fall, online A & P II is as follows:

Lecture Exam 1 - 2/14/10 (8 - 9 pm only)

Lecture Exam 2 -3/7/10 (8 - 9 pm only)

Lecture Exam 3 -4/18/10 (8 - 9 pm only)

Final Lecture Exam -5/9/10 (8 - 9 pm only)

Lab Exam 1 - 2/15/10 - 2/17/10 (Due midnight 2/17/10)

Lab Exam 2 - 3/8/10 - 3/10/10 (Due midnight 3/10/10)

Lab Exam 3 - 4/19/10 - 4/21/10 (Due midnight 4/21/10)

Final Lab Exam -5/10/10 -5/12/10 (Due midnight 5/12/10)

If you cannot meet the exam schedule, you cannot take the course. Also, due dates for assignments such as quizzes, papers, etc... fall on Sundays.

YOU CANNOT TAKE BOTH ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I & II SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE SAME SEMESTER.  A&PI IS A PREREQUISITE TO A&P2.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  If you have enrolled in both, you must drop A&P2 or you will be dropped by the instructor.

If this class is full, no overrides will be authorized.
