HOW TO USE THE NCTC VIDEO HOSTING SERVICE
The eLearning Department subscribes to SproutVideo, an online video hosting service. SproutVideo provides a secure, central location for online and hybrid faculty to stream instructional video content. Currently, access to SproutVideo is only available at the administrator level, meaning only eLearning staff can access the account. Therefore, please follow these two steps whenever you wish to use the NCTC SproutVideo account:
-
1. Provide eLearning with the video content you wish to upload to SproutVideo.
-
2. Provide eLearning with the exact location within your course(s) to embed the video content.
Once you complete these two steps eLearning will upload your content to SproutVideo. We will then embed that video directly in the course areas you request.
Important
Starting spring 2013, SproutVideo will be available for hosting and streaming video in online and hybrid courses ONLY. As a result of steadily increasing demand from online faculty, we must limit its access to these courses. Any video that is not used in an online or hybrid course will be removed from SproutVideo the week of January 7, 2013. Additionally, any video stored in SproutVideo for over 1 year with less than 5 views will be removed that same week, regardless of course delivery format. Any video removed from SproutVideo during this period will be archived locally by the eLearning Department until transferred to its owner.
Please DO NOT store any video files in ANGEL, as this results in rapid degradation of server space needed for critical system tasks. See the Video Hosting section of the Technologies and Services for Teaching and Learning page for a detailed list of free video hosting services. Most offer the ability to modify privacy settings so that your video is only viewable within ANGEL. If you have any questions about SproutVideo or an alternate hosting service, please contact Michael Robertson or Becky Miller.
