TSI Testing Information

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) measures the ability of students, as indicated by their skills in Reading, Writing and Math, to do college-level course work. If you do not meet any TSI exemption requirements (see below for exemptions) and are pursuing an Associate’s Degree program, even for transfer classes, you will need to take the TSI test.  The TSI checklist below includes your next steps and how to schedule a TSI test.

For a complete list of TSI Assessment Test preparation instructions, please download the TSI Checklist which includes campus locations and contact information for all NCTC Testing Centers.

Students who demonstrate deficiencies in any of these areas will be required to enroll in at least one College Preparatory Course each semester until they have completed and passed all required remediation courses with a "C" or better.

Pre-Assessment Activity

The TSI Pre-Assessment Activity will help you understand the importance of the TSI, how to best prepare for taking this exam, and what resources are available to help you make a successful transition to NCTC. Proof of completion of the Pre-Assessment Activity is required before scheduling a TSI exam at any NCTC campus.

Please print your Pre-Assessment Activity completion e-mail to show in person when you are scheduling your TSI test, or forward the e-mail to the appropriate Testing Center contact based on the campus at which you are scheduling the TSI.
