The Cyber Security certificate and AAS degree programs at NCTC offer students distinctly unique paths to prepare them for careers in information security. Both certificate and degree programs are taught by instructors who currently work in the field of cyber security.  As a result, students learn from real-world threat examples to impliment state-of-the-industry security solutions.  You can learn more about NCTC’s cyber security program and instructor by watching the video below.

For information security professionals, no two days are the same.  Careers in digital security involve planning, coordinating, and maintaining an organization's information security. This includes monitoring network firewalls and intrusion prevention systems, overseeing security operations center management, implimenting policies and procedures, and developing and providing security awareness training. In some professions, specialists may gather digital forensic evidence for prosecuting cybercrimes or may work as a consultant performing penetration testing exercises against an organization's users, networks, systems, and applications.

Protecting online data is a critical task for every business in every industry.  As a result, skilled cyber security professionals are in high demand in both government and private sectors.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects the demand for Information Security Analysts to grow by 18 percent between 2014 and 2024.  According to the BLS, the median annual pay for Information Security Analysts was $90,120 in 2015.

How long does it take to obtain this degree? add

The Cyber Security certificate is designed to be completed in one year while the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is set to conclude in two years. Students, however, may set their own pace.

Are any of the courses offered online? add

Yes, courses in Cyber Security are offered online in Canvas. Online courses are comparable to classroom courses but may be attended at a time and place of the student’s choosing. Hybrid classes may also be available each semester. Check with the department for the current class schedule.

Will this program transfer to a four-year university? add

Yes! The Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) will transfer to several North Texas universities through AAS to BAAS transfer programs. For more information and a list of participating institutions, please review the AAS to BAAS Guided Pathways.
