General Education Core Curriculum

North Central Texas College seeks to implement its first goal of providing quality freshman and sophomore level courses in arts and sciences by identifying a core of general education courses in the following areas: humanities/fine arts, social science/behavioral science, and natural sciences/mathematics.

The chief focus of the General Education Core Courses at NCTC is to emphasize competencies in reading, writing, speaking, critical thinking, and computer use. Additionally, the general education courses provide broad intellectual perspectives of historical consciousness, multi-cultural awareness, numerical comprehension and analysis, appreciation of the scientific method, and concern about human ethics and values.

Students who are seeking AA or AS degrees must complete 62 hours of college work. Students are required to take at least 42 of the 62 hours from the General Education Core Curriculum below. To be a candidate for graduation from North Central Texas College, a student must complete a minimum of 18 semester hours in residence for any degree or certificate. A student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in the work presented for any degree.
