Welcome to the Social Science Department
  • The Social Science Department offers a variety of introductory level courses which form an integral part of NCTC's core curriculum requirements for both the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees and are transferable to senior colleges and universities. These courses assist students in pursuing career goals specifically in fields such as education, information services, public administration, creative and technical writing, journalism, law, and human relations. Many of the social science classes also satisfy personal enrichment needs for individual students.
  • In addition to discipline specific courses in Economics, History, Government, Sociology, and Psychology, the department offers several humanities classes designed to explore special topics of local, national and global significance. Current humanities course offerings examine subjects such as human rights, county history, and the role of movies in American culture
  • The Social Science faculty consists of 14 full time department members and approximately 32 adjuncts. All are dedicated to assisting students in fulfilling their academic, professional and self actualization goals. In order to provide a broad spectrum of quality educational opportunities the department schedule incorporates both traditional classroom, on-line and distance learning experiences. Many faculty members utilize a variety of innovative technologies and techniques such as Blackboard and power point to enhance course presentations.
  • As a part of their regular activities Social Science faculty members also make special contributions to the intellectual and cultural life of both the college and the community. They sponsor student organizations, plan and participate in programs such as Around the World at NCTC and the Black History Celebration, offer specialized continuing education classes, participate in political elections, and serve as resource persons for local citizens and organizations.
