History Department:
Role and Scope:

History courses offered at North Central Texas support the academic transfer mission of the college, since all state-supported colleges and universities in Texas require six academic hours (two courses) in United States history.  Many academic degree plans also require additional courses in the History of Civilization.  The study of history is essential to all academic programs because it encourages students to develop the ability to analyze current social and political issues and problems in terms of their historical development, thus enhancing critical thinking skills.  By providing this cultural context, these courses give students insight into their society and the world at large, providing perspectives not otherwise available.
