Susan Decker
brings not only a wealth of expertise in the science
area, but also an inspiring background as a medical
illustrator. Prior to joining NCTC, Susan painted
and sculpted skin tones and anatomical features for
prosthetic devices. After completion of her masters,
Susan began work as a freelance medical illustrator
completing illustrations for Baylor hospital, the Heart
Institute of New York and the Mayo clinic. She
has also completed illustrations for the Botanical Research
Institute of Texas and several private physicians and
surgical equipment companies.
Susan joined
NCTC in 2002 as an adjunct instructor, teaching biology,
anatomy & physiology and nutrition. In 2003, she
began full-time, teaching biology, nutrition and environmental
biology. She received her Bachelor's in Fine Arts with
a minor in Biology from University of North Texas in
May 1993 and completed an EMT Certification in 1996.
In 2002, she completed a Masters of Arts from University
of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
Susan's illustrations
have garnered several prestigious awards in various
art competitions including: The Federal Duck Stamp,
Art Show at the Dog Show, Association of Medical Illustrators,
National Turkey Association and the Irving Art Show.
She is currently editing and illustrating a biology
lab manual for North Central Texas College.
