Students will meet one day a week in a traditional
classroom in the main Corinth building and will be required to spend 3 hours a week in the Math Quest Center in Pinnell Square. All homework and quizzes will be done in the center using MyMathLab software. Students may purchase the software alone or with a textbook. Assignments will be due on a weekly basis. For more information about this program, contact Keith Bailey at 940-498-6225 or Sara Alford at 940-498-6209, or email department assistants Clarisa Sunnenberg at csunnenberg@nctc.edu or Dawn Porter at dporter@nctc.edu.
The software provides students with videos, animations, examples and hints. Instructors and tutors will be in the center to answer questions, and students will attend a once-a-week lecture designed to review material from the previous week and preview the upcoming assignments. Mathematics is learned more by doing than by watching someone else do the work. That's why Math Quest is such as exciting program! The software provides instant feedback on homework questions; students know right away if the problem is done correctly or if they need to retry problems.
The center will be open approximately 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Each student will be required to be in the center 3 hours a week, and it is up to the student to decide when that will be. For example, a student could spend 3 hours one day a week (not ideal) or spread it out over 4 or 5 days. Students should take this into consideration when developing their schedule and make sure they have time with school, work, and any other responsibilities. Many students will want to use the center during "prime time hours," so the more flexible the student can be the better.
Students may purchase MyMathLab in the NCTC bookstore with or without a textbook. New textbooks will be packaged with the software, but used books will not. Students can purchase the software separately at www.coursecompass.com. In order to do this, the student will need the course ID, which can be found on our website. Students should plan to have the access code for the software with them at the first class meeting if they haven't already registered with coursecompass.com. A valid email address is necessary to register for MyMathLab.
